Create and Save a Screenshot file

Windows

Windows Snipping Tool takes screenshots.

Besides using the PrintScreen button on the Windows keyboard, you can use the Snipping Tool for more control.

  1. Start → All Programs → Accessories → Snipping Tool
  2. New → Rectangular Snip to select just the portion of the window and screen you need to show.
  3. Save the file as .GIF for low file size and best clarity.
  4. Rename the saved file to correlate with your spreadsheet: name-current-finances.gif

Macintosh

Apple Preview App takes screenshots

Besides using Shift3 to capture the screen on a Mac, you can use the Preview application to capture, edit, and save the file.

  1. Applications → Preview → File → Take Screenshot → From Selection
  2. Drag the crosshair cursor over the area you want to capture.
  3. Edit as needed.
  4. Save as the file as .GIF for low file size and best clarity.
  5. Rename the saved file to correlate with your spreadsheet: name-current-finances.gif (or other output).

Chromebook

Besides using CtrlShift to capture the screen on a Chromebook, you can capture a selection:

  1. CtrlShiftChromebook's Window key
  2. Drag the crosshair cursor over the area you want to capture.
  3. Rename the saved file to correlate with your spreadsheet: name-current-finances.png (or other output).
