Embed Hyperlinks

Canvas

Embed hyperlinks to Canvas Forum threads using the Hyperlink editing icon.

  1. First copy the URL/address of the link you want to add.
  2. Then navigate back to your Canvas thread.
    1. Select the title of the article, book, journal, or web site that needs the link. Select the title of the site, click the link button, then paste in the URL. Click Insert Link.
    2. Click the Canvas hyperlink icon icon on the toolbar.
    3. Paste in the address you copied in step 1.
      Paste over the http:// with an http:// address
    4. Click Insert Link.
  3. The end result is a link that looks like this: Corinne A Moss-Racusin (et el) notes in her Oct 2012 article, Science Faculty's Subtle Gender Biases Favor Male Students, that hiring practices are not equal.... when starting with an address like this: http://www.pnas.org/content/109/41/16474.short.
    The resulting hyperlink is a different color and sometimes has an underline

IMPORTANT:

  • Key phrases and words with hyperlinks do not earn full points.
  • Long URLs pasted in the text or at the bottom of your text do not earn full points.
  • Titles of articles with hyperlinks earn full points.
  • Hyperlink the article title the first time you mention it. Thereafter, if you mention it again, just use the author's last name. No need to hyperlink the title every time.

Wordpress

Embed hyperlinks to inline citations, bibliographic references, images, and additional resources to improve readability in any page or post of a web site.

  1. First copy the address of the link you want to add.
  2. Then navigate back to your Wordpress Page or Post editing screen.
    1. Confirm that you are editing in the VISUAL tab NOT THE TEXT tab!
    2. Select the title or author of the article, book, journal, or web site that needs the link.
      1. Click the Link icon on the toolbar.
        1. Paste in the URL/address for the link.
        2. Add a title that describes the article; such as title, author, date, and publisher.
        3. Click Insert.
    3. The end result is a link that looks like this: WS 320 Materials when starting with an address like this: http://oregonstate.edu/~vanlondp/wgss320.
    4. An inline citation would like like this: (Van Londen, 2016).

HTML

  1. Type in the TEXT or HTML mode rather than the VISUAL mode.
  2. Add this HTML code to your web page or blog post:
    • <a href="http://webpageaddress.com" >Name of the link</a>
